My only wish in life to to make the world a better place for the next generation. This certainly includes my children, but also my family, friends and those whom I have never met but whose whose lives I can touch. I have been involved with REF for the last 20 years…before it was even called REF. Despite the fact that I grew up in the US and am the classic “ABCD” or “Coconut”, I have always felt strong filial and cultural relationship with India which is probably due to my parent’s insistence that I understand my heritage.
The REF started with the iconic educator, Dr. Ravi Ramakantan, and Dr. Bhavin Jankharia. Their passion for education has trained a generation of Indian Radiologists over the past 20 years and I have been privileged to play a small role in this important mission. But what is sometimes forgotten has been the impact on our patients. No field has evolved more than Radiology over the last 30 years and Radiology now plays a pivotal role in patient care across the globe. The pedagogical success of REF extends far beyond the training of individual Indian radiologists but improves quality of healthcare we provide to our patients who are the sons and daughters of India.
The In-Reach program is a natural extension of REF and similar programs in the United States that have been very successful. I encourage you to participate in this wonderful organization and donate your time, energy and knowledge to future radiologists, as others did for us, to improve the healthcare of people we know and those we will never meet to make this world a little better place.
